Project Life - Week 6

Sunday- In my opinion the best part of the Super Bowl this year wasn't the commercials or even the game... It was the cinnamon rolls that Miss Carol made. Oh my goodness.

Monday - I have been working on this blanket for a year and I'm getting a little tired of it. I'm ready to get it finished so I can start a easier, or perhaps just smaller project.

Tuesday - The prettiest plate of Valentine cookies showed up at red door today. They taste just as good as they look.

Wednesday - We got a few more things for the Peanut's room. After seeing the price of this lamp an comparing it to some others we couldn't pass it up. The bin was on clearance which made it pretty cheap too.

Thursday - Handy found theses cheez-its at the store. We tasted all the flavors and decided that colby jack was our favorite.

Friday - Punky actually ate a whole bowl of food at once! His eating habits have been random lately so this was reason to celebrate.

Saturday - We were feeling pretty crafty at red door. It was pretty cold and snowy so we decided to stay in and get some things done.

Project Life - Week 5

Sunday - We finally picked a name for our girly! I knew that I wanted to put the letters above her crib but we couldn't do that until we picked a name. After seeing how expensive the letters were I'm glad we didn't pick something long.

Monday - I always come home to baskets of laundry on Monday. I manage to get things washed, dried and folded on Sunday but run out of steam when it comes to putting it all away.

Tuesday - February heat wave! I traded my sweaters for a short sleeve shirt today. Let's hope it's not freezing in the spring since the winter has been so mild.

Wednesday - 1st pup strut of the year! It's usually April before we get to take the boy for a walk. He was super happy to get to go this early.

Thursday - When Bevo wants us to go upstairs he gets a toy and waits on the landing. Apparently he had been attempting to get us up there for awhile because when Handy went to go take a shower there was a pile of toys the boy had carried over. Of course he only carried the tire upstairs and we had to clean up the rest.

Friday - We got the Peanut her first racing t-shirt. Handy found these on the clearance rack and we couldn't pass them up. Now we have two 99 fans at our house. We will have to find some Kasey Kahne stuff for her too. Less than a month until Daytona!

Saturday - Dinner at Park Street. Handy got some Thai peanut butter wings... I may or may not have eaten more of them than he did.

Project Life - Week 4

Sunday - This chicken-y dog doesn't like to take baths. Unfortunately with his itchy skin the vet said he needs to have 2 baths a week. He will go into the bathroom but won't get into the tub by himself.

Monday - These should come with a warning label. We stopped at the store to get a few things we forgot on our weekly trip and picked them up. Of course we had to taste them when we got home and almost ate the whole bag... yikes!

Tuesday - Happy National Peanut Butter Day! Me and the pooch are the peanut butter eaters in our house. He wasn't quite sure why I was sitting on the floor with him holding a jar of peanut butter.

Wednesday - It seems the hunger strike is coming to an end. Bevo actually went out and at some food on his own. Handy ended up starting dinner half and hour late because he didn't want to disturb the dog while he was eating.

Thursday - Time for my weekly date with the receipts. I don't mind it unless the checkbook doesn't balance.

Friday - I got the photos for the first 3 weeks of Project Life printed and put into my album. I'm super excited to actually have a book of my photos when I'm done with the year.

Saturday - We finally made it to a basketball game this year. There wasn't much time to spare since the girls only have 5 more games before tournaments. They played pretty well and ended up winning 61-35.

Project Life - Week 3

Sunday - We have started making soup for dinner every Sunday. This week we made White Chili. It was pretty yummy but a little spicy. Handy said he would make some changes to the recipe next time.

Monday - Bevo was excited to have a visitor! Of course the only reason any one comes down to our house is to see him, not hang out with his people.

Tuesday - We had to go to calling hours on Tuesday night. It was super windy and some trees were knocked down a few blocks away.

Wednesday - Handy has been using this cast-iron skillet for everything... steaks, cornbread, pork chops, gumbo, salmon, bacon... you name it, he's made it.

Thursday - Who is excited about the snow? This girl!!! It even snowed enough to get our first snow day of the year on Friday.

Friday - Movie night with the Mr.

Saturday - Lunch at my favorite restaurant! I tell Handy all the time he's lucky that I'm happy with a chicken sandwich and fries rather than wanting to go to fancy restaurants. We even had coupons!

Project Life - Week 2

Sunday - B was happy for us to spend a lazy day home with him. He wasn't so happy when I was yelling at the television during the football games.

Monday - We got a couple more things finished in the Peanut's room. It turned out really nice even though we pieced things together rather than buying a bedding set... it was much cheaper too.

Tuesday - Handy calls these "meat muffins". I don't care what he calls them as long as I get to eat them! They were super yummy.

Wednesday - I'm not sure what is worse... taking semester exams or having to grade semester exams.

Thursday - This is where toys end up when the pup isn't gentle enough with them. Poor Gator is missing an eye and has a leg that is barely attached.

Friday - the picture I took didn't turn out well... I will have to find a filler picture.

Saturday - We went to watch Kendra play basketball. It was pretty fun but we had never heard so much squealing. Apparently the coaches tell the girls to yell when the other team takes a shot. Kendra had 3 points even though her team lost.

Project Life - Week 1

Jan. 1-7

Sunday - We always take a New Year's picture in Aunt Pat's kitchen. She has a little step stool in there that makes me taller than the Handy man!

Monday - Apparently Handy's helpfulness isn't limited to just our house. He was tired of hearing the sign over at the church clank when the wind blew. One bolt and washer later all was quiet.

Tuesday - Bevo is on a lot of medicine right now, which is good for him since his hunger strike means that he only eats the two peanut butter treats we give him at breakfast and dinner.

Wednesday - I need to pay more attention when I get dressed in the morning. Mismatched earrings are quite a fashion statement. At least I had on the same shoes.

Thursday - The rocking chair finally made it into the Peanut's room. The pink cushion actually doesn't look too bad up there and it kinda matches with the other stuff we have.

Friday - We went up to First Friday to see the ice sculptures. It's pretty amazing what they can do with chainsaws and blow torches. I liked the dog the best.

Saturday - The sausage at the Cheese is always sculpted to look like a piggy. It's a little too cute and makes me not want to eat it.

Monday - Our Christmas celebration took an extra day. Handy was in charge of bringing the gifts down because he can carry the most at once.

Tuesday - This boy enjoyed some extra time on the sofa after spending the majority of the last two days in his box

Wednesday - This is how projects usually go at our house. Handy works and the boy and I watch.

Thursday - Dear strawberry pretzel dessert, I love you.

Friday - I'm already putting my new planner to good use. Hopefully it will help me to not forget anything important.

Saturday - We almost didn't get our Christmas cards out this year. Snapfish was running behind with their prints so after waiting for 2 weeks we decided to get our photos printed locally so the cards could go out.

Sunday - Christmas in Avon Lake

Monday - The pup got a bath and a treat as a reward. He hates getting a bath.

Tuesday - It's a wrap. All the presents are ready to go!

Wednesday - After another trip to the vet Bevo is on a third kind of medicine for his skin. We feel bad for him but he doesn't mind. He gets a peanut butter treat before both his meals.

Thursday - This yummy bean dip has become a staple around our house. It's been the perfect thing to take to parties too.

Friday - We're ready for the Christmas weekend to begin!

Saturday - We have been so busy that we had to cram almost all of our Christmas shopping into one day. We were pretty successful and only have a few more things to pick up.

Sunday - After buying all those gifts we had some hardcore wrapping to do.

Monday - The Peanut's Christmas gift came in the mail today. I hope she likes it as much as I do.

Tuesday - I love decorating our dining room with Christmas cards.

Wednesday - Dinner at the Cheese!

Thursday - We ordered these clementines what seemed like forever-ago. Handy was pretty happy when they finally showed up.

Friday - Stagg Bowl 2011. Wooooo Raiders!

Saturday - Let the decorating begin! We gave Bevo a treat so he wouldn't be in the middle of the action, apparently he was going to be there anyway.

Sunday - This is what we do.

Monday - This cup didn't even make it a year. Handy dropped it at work and it broke into two pieces. I think we need to stick with metal mugs.

Tuesday - You know your husband is low-maintenance when "beef jerky" is actually on his Christmas list.

Wednesday - The FedEx man couldn't find our house. When they called us we told them the same thing we tell everyone "look for the red door."

Thursday - Grilled cheese on the new panini press! They were so yummy.

Friday - Chip dip sale + coupons = a whole shelf full of dip for the handy man. Now we need a whole shelf of potato chips.

Saturday - Christmas tree picking day. The weather was the warmest I can remember but it was super muddy.

Sunday - Bevo's tree is up and decorated. There's lots of Longhorn orange on that little tree.

Monday - The dining room table is looking festive with our new poinsettia. Let's see if this one lives until March like last years.

Tuesday - Handy picked up our "Connie - corn" early this year. It is so good! We each got our own bag. Can you guess which one is for the lady and which one is for the man?

Wednesday - Handy made some cookies after supper. I didn't even know he was making them until they were out of the oven... He's not a big cookie person so I was pretty surprised.

Thursday - I got a thank you note at work today. It's nice to know you are appreciated.

Friday - This is our new ornament for 2011. Our collection is getting bigger and bigger.

Saturday - Lunch date at the Cheese. These are becoming a weekly tradition and we aren't complaining!

Sunday - Thanksgiving / Christmas with Grandma and Grandpa before they go back to Arizona.

Monday - We got all of the furniture moved around upstairs... Now to start on the peanut's room!

Tuesday - Cooper turned 60.

Wednesday - Bevo has been helping Handy Man get the laundry room ready which means lots of family time in the kitchen. He's always such a happy pup.

Thursday - The platform is built... and not a moment too soon. The delivery men will be here tomorrow.

Friday - Finally after over a year of looking and waiting for the right deal we got our new laundry room. You know you're an adult when you get excited over a new washer and dryer

Saturday - Handy got the Bullet ready for winter. It was a little tricky to get the battery out. He didn't plan on taking everything off, just the battery, but by the time he got to it most of the parts were off so he kept going.

Sunday - We went to a 1 year party for Tony. Two fat guys barbecue + cake = yum!

Monday - This boy makes it super hard to get going in the morning. I would much rather cuddle with him on the sofa than go to work.

Tuesday - More pictures of the girlie. They way she was laying they could see her heart well (which is what they wanted) but couldn't get her profile so we got a picture of her face and her foot.

Wednesday - Lari likes the Handy Man... I got up to go to the bathroom and came back to find her in my spot.

Thursday - Happy Thanksgiving!

Friday - All of the kids decorated Christmas ornaments after the Davis Thanksgiving. They turned out really cute!

Saturday - We picked up this outfit for the peanut. Clothes are way more fun to buy than wipes and diapers.

Sunday - We were hoping for a quiet Sunday. I don't think we sat down until after dinner.

Monday - We started our Christmas shopping! Two gifts down, a bunch to go.

Tuesday - Election day. Bevo was happy because he got to strut to our polling location with us.

Wednesday - This is the look we get every night about 6:30. The pup thinks that if it's dark it must be time to cuddle. He's waiting for us to take off his collar and turn off the tv.

Thursday - Our new "office" area is done. Handy painted the file cabinet and it looks way better than before. Now we just have to re-organize the bills and things.

Friday - I'm pretty sure this pumpkin roll was the best fundraiser ever. It's super tasty.

Saturday - The laundry room cabinet finally made it up on the wall. It's full of stuff and looks a lot better than the shelves we had sitting in the dining room.

Sunday - Lari-lou had fun watching the football game with Handy. I kept reminding her that he goes home with me.

Monday - This is the only Halloween decoration that made it up this year.

Tuesday - It's a girl! Bring on the pink :o)

Wednesday - Clogged pipes = a really long night. Thankfully Handy knows what he's doing and he figured it out without calling a plumber and had it fixed with only 1 trip to Lowes.

Thursday - This is the pile of dishes I washed after two days of having no kitchen sink. Eeek!

Friday - Mmmmm, pizza.

Saturday - The super nice weather was perfect for carving pumpkins. Handy was smart enough to bring them inside the night before so the guts weren't so cold.

Sunday - They looked even better with candles in the dark. Handy picked the scary design. I went with the Bevo since it was easy and I figured it would be hard to mess up.

Monday - The tree in front of our house finally decided to start changing colors. Now it's dropping its leaves all over Tiny.

Tuesday - Handy's favorite dinner, Chinese take out

Wednesday - I made no bakes for the school bake sale. The hardest part was not eating them. They must have been good though since they were all sold out before my lunch period.

Thursday - Punky loves to take his medicine. He looks for a peanut butter treat even when he doesn't need a pill.

Friday - Handy: I bet you would fit in this trash bag. Me: Let's find out.

Saturday - Lunch at Brown Bag with Gram. Turkey burgers, fair fries and peanuts!

Sunday - The closet may be clean but the room is now a mess. I think I liked it better when I could close the door and pretend all the junk wasn't there.

Monday - Pork chops, mashed potatoes, corn and mushroom gravy. It did taste as good as it looked.

Tuesday - Happy 3rd anniversary Handy! I left him a little note on the mirror.

Wednesday - I think it may be time to turn the furnace back on.

Thursday - Bevo sure does know how to spend a rainy day... snuggled up on the couch.

Friday - We went to the orchard to get our pumpkins for Halloween. Handy had fun climbing through this pile to find good ones. Then he gave them to me and I complained about how heavy they were.

Saturday - The Lakeside festival was pretty fun. The craft tables and the German almonds were the best parts. The necklace I made was too small to fit over my head so Handy had to get a new string and re-thread it.

Sunday - After 2 hours and over 300 pictures we finally got a good family photo.

Monday - Apparently Bevo thinks he's too cool to sleep at sleep away camp. He did nothing but nap after Handy picked him up.

Tuesday - We got to see the grand champion cheese in the cheese cave when we went out to dinner. That's a whole lotta swiss.

Wednesday - I was tired of being cold so I broke out the corduroy pants a little early. My gray jacket has also become a daily fashion statement.

Thursday - The leaves have been looking fantastic the last week or so. It makes my daily commute a little prettier.

Friday - English muffin + milk = my breakfast of choice. It's getting colder so I think oatmeal will be back soon.

Saturday - A trip to the potato chip outlet = 3 pounds of barbecue chips. Hopefully these will last a little while.

Sunday - Happy Birthday Grant! It didn't take him long to figure out how to smash that cake.

Monday - Handy moved around the back room again. We wanted to do it for awhile but were putting it off because the bookcase is super heavy. He found out that it has wheels on the bottom and just rolled it across the floor.

Tuesday - It's almost done... for the second time.

Wednesday - Lots to do + little time = sleepy people and pup.

Thursday - We're getting ready to go to the lake. It's amazing how much stuff you need for a 3 day trip.

Friday - Marblehead light house. I don't remember the sky looking that blue when I took this picture!

Saturday - Fall Homecoming 2011

Sunday - The end of summer horse show was a success. It was fun to watch the girls show off their horse skills.

Monday - Apparently 3 years was the limit for my $2.50 flip flops.

Tuesday - No photo. The stomach flu was visiting red door and the lady wasn't worried about taking pictures

Wednesday - Upset tummy = lots of peanut butter and crackers.

Thursday - The garden is ready for the winter. Handy chopped down all the sunflowers, they were sturdy little buggers. He actually had to use a saw.

Friday - The cleaning fairy needs to get busy in our living room.

Saturday - Handy won the super bonus from this machine. All of the little kids were staring as the tickets kept coming out.

Sunday - Applesauce time! Looks like we need a bigger stove.

Monday - Welcome fall!

Tuesday - Punky had his yearly check up at the vet. He was super chicken-y and hid under the bench but got a clean bill of health.

Wednesday - Handy says it's cheese, I say it won't come out of the can. Despite the odd start it did end up being pretty tasty.

Thursday - We went to get ice cream after supper. I was going to take a picture of my sundae before I ate it but I couldn't wait that long.

Friday - T-county fair. Five cent cake and free popcorn. Mmmmmm.

Saturday - We went to watch Zach play soccer. He did a pretty good job but was tired by the end of the second game.

Sunday - Lari was less than impressed with the Browns... They seem to like to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory on a regular basis.

Monday - That would be the washer behind the door jamb... Whoo hoo! Now we can open the door all the way.

Tuesday - If anyone has seen the cleaning fairy will you please send her our way? Thanks.

Wednesday - When there's nothing interesting going on... take a picture of Bevo!

Thursday - Handy decided to trade his screwdriver for a spatula. The cookies were great.

Friday - We bought 2 bushels of apples at the orchard. Next time you see these they will be applesauce.

Saturday - The diary bar is always our first stop when we get to the fair. We love their milkshakes.

Sunday - Dinner by the pond.

Monday - Lari had fun swimming. She got the bumper a few times but wasn't too sure about jumping off the end of the dock.

Tuesday - It's candy corn season!!! I was so excited to see this in the stores. I love to mix it with peanuts. It tastes just like a pay day bar.

Wednesday - I wore my new shoes to work for the first time... They looked good but I was glad I took my old ones just in case. By 6th period my toes were killing me.

Thursday - See ya Sallie Mae! I only have one more undergrad loan to pay off.

Friday - They're at it again. Hopefully this time we will be able to open the door without hitting the dryer.

Saturday - Laundry day during the school year... sometimes I think I have more clothes that need to hang to dry rather than ones that can go in the dryer.

Sunday - More fun with the food processor. This became seafood quesadillas. Handy also made some awesome guacamole.

Monday - Lazy evening at home.

Tuesday - It was finally cool enough to take a warm drink to work.

Wednesday - Handy has been reading like crazy lately... I think he has read more than I did in the last month.

Thursday - We got some new stuff to try for Handy's leg spasms... Hopefully this will help.

Friday - Good Morning fog! Sometimes it's so foggy I drive past the turn for work and have to go in the bottom entrance.

(Blogger doesn't like my pictures this week and keeps desaturating the color... They looked way better on my computer than they do here... grrr.)

Saturday - One of Handy's co-workers brought him some tomatoes so we used them to make homemade salsa in the food processor. It's spicy but good.

Sunday - The first apples of the season! These are paula reds. They are pretty crisp and tart. I'm super excited for apples this fall. I'm going to make apple pie, apple tart, apple crisp, apple sauce...

Monday - This is what happens when Handy decides to order enough food for a family... it was a chicken feast. Thank goodness he made it last for 2 meals. I thought I was going to come home and find him in a potato induced coma.

Tuesday - My mum is looking great on the porch. Since it's a garden mum I'm hoping I can plant it in the back yard and it will survive.

Wednesday - Bevo wanted me to take his picture. He's always so happy.

Thursday - The staples are out! Handy's dome looks so much better this week than it did last week.

Friday - These flowers are the ones we planted in our porch boxes last summer. I thought I pulled them out by the roots last fall but apparently they are resilient and survived all winter in the garage to bloom again this summer. I guess they weren't lying when they named them proven winners.

Saturday - I got to spend my birthday at the ball park... this year was much more fun than last year when the Handy man worked 15 hours.

Sunday - Making zucchini relish with Grandma. It wasn't hard to do it just took a lot of time.

Monday - Happy Birthday Handy! We went back to Grandma's to finish the relish.

Tuesday - We had a pretty big card collection going on in the kitchen.

Wednesday - Hooray for fuel perks! We saved over $100

Thursday - Shopping with Gram. I got more school supplies and stuff for my classroom.

Friday - Head + steel beam = a trip to get staples and stitches... Ewwwwww.

Saturday - The birds love our sunflowers. Handy took this picture of them eating the seeds from a bloom we had cut down.

Sunday - Community service day = a ton of work at the stadium. It looked great when we got done.

Monday - Dear neighbor man, Trash goes in a trash can... not on the curb. Thanks to you we have huge crows looking for food... ewwwwww.

Tuesday - The boys have a new project to work on... a patio set. It should be easy for Handy.

Wednesday - Klondikes were on sale for $1.99... we have 3 boxes in our freezer,

Thursday - Mississippi Mud Brownies... not as chocolate-y as I thought they would be but Handy really likes them.

Friday - Brrrrrrrr... I don't want to see temps in the 40's until October.

Saturday - We got some zucchini from this produce stand at the sidewalk sale. Yum!

Sunday - Handy was going to throw this t-shirt away so we decided to see if it would fit on the bubby... I'm amazed he puts up with us sometimes.

Monday - Cookout @ Grandma's.

Tuesday - Handy bought me flowers... they look fantastic on the dinning room table.

Wednesday - I'm pretty sure this is the yuckiest picture of the week. The a/c has been on non-stop since it's so hot. The filter sign was blinking so Handy changed it... I think it was just a little dirty. Ick.

Thursday - We sent in the last payment for Tiny. Hooray!

Friday - Lots of new flowers for the garden... the best part is that they were free and we didn't have to grow them from seeds.

Saturday - I started buying school supplies... yikes! I need these bins since I won't have a closet but rather shelves to put all my stuff in.

Sunday - Handy found a freezer for us on craigslist. We had been looking for one since Christmas and finally found one that was upright and would fit down our stairs.

Monday - Bevo got a present all the way from Seattle... Nanny said that they only bought things for the "kids".

Tuesday - Swimming @ Tall Timbers.

Wednesday - Not wearing sun screen while swimming = using a lot of this lotion the next day.

Thursday - I think we should start vacuuming the dog... or maybe teach him how to use the sweeper and clean up after himself.

Friday - New windshield for Tiny... this chip was in what the glass people called "the acute area" so they couldn't seal it.

Monday - Happy National Ice Cream Day!

Tuesday - Bevo loves to strut... if you ask him "What do you want to do?" he will go sit by the door and wag his tail.

Wednesday - I love this new notepad / accordion file I found at tj maxx... It will be perfect for grocery lists and coupons. We have been using the same notebook for shopping lists since we moved over 3 years ago.

Thursday - Road trip to the science center.

Friday - Want to come sit on our deck? Neither do we...

Squeaky

This is Bevo's "squeaky"... We never bought him soft, squeaky toys for two reasons... 1) that squeak could get annoying, 2) after the way he chewed through the strongest nylabone they make we figure the soft plastic wouldn't stand a chance.

We didn't buy Bevo his squeaky... it appeared last Friday in the back yard. We're pretty sure the pooch is a strong believer in "finders keepers" since he hasn't left the darn squeaky out of his sight since he found it.

We're surprised how gentle he has been with this toy. There aren't any holes in it yet and perhaps we should have a back up squeaky... he may have separation issues.

Handy even tried burring his squeaky in the toy box under all the other toys... He dug it out and left the other toys lay on the ground.

I suppose we are lucky that he's easily entertained.

Pickin' the Pickers

Between eating our continental breakfast (oatmeal and coffee) and people watching we caught a story on the local news about the opening of a new Antique Archaeology shop in Nashville. After we left the Hermitage we ended up going over to take a look at the shop... we weren't the only ones...

It was really cool to see things in the store that we had watched them pick on television. The only problem with that was we knew how much they paid and could tell how big the mark-up was...

It was pretty cool to meet Mike and Danielle... they were really nice.

The (second) best part was the cold water in a cooler out side... did I mention it was hot?

Saturday - Lunch at Chic-fil-a wearing our matching pickers t-shirts.

Sunday - Handy was being a bar-b-que pitmaster on Sunday. The ribs turned out pretty good and were yummy... I don't even like ribs but I ate them.

Monday - Q: What do you do when you have to ride the Bullet home in the rain? A: Borrow a painting suit from work.... I never knew they made onesies that big!

Tuesday - I have been trying to get some more of my blanket knitted this week. It's getting bigger which is good and bad... now I have to hold a blanket on my lap while I work on it. 90 degrees + a blanket on your lap = sweating.

Wednesday - This was so good it gets 2 pictures... It seems the kid at Wendy's thought I was looking particularly old on Wednesday... Check out that receipt. Senior Discount?!?!?

Thursday - The sunflowers have really taken off this week. We have tons of flowers and they look great. The only problem is that they seem to attract a lot of flies...

Friday - Flies that were getting in the house every time we opened the back door to let Bevo out. Our old screen door broke last Friday and Handy had been so busy that he didn't have time to get the new one up for a week. You see a door... I see no more flies in my living room!

Andrew Jackson's Hermitage

We visited Andrew Jackson's home outside of Nashville. It was really interesting but also rather similar to Mount Vernon.

The audio tours were really nice. They had the traditional adult historical one, a kids option and a third that told the story from the perspective of Jackson's wife who died between the time he was elected president and took office.

The best part about the garden was the sprinklers... it was so hot that walking through the cool water was really nice.

This building was the "original" Hermitage. They lived here while building the big house.

We drove to Lynchburg while in Tennessee to visit the Jack Daniel's distillery. We could smell the whiskey the minute we got out of the car.

It was actually way more interesting than I thought it would be. We got there early but still had to wait for our tour to begin. They have exhibits inside the visitors center that explain the basics about their whiskey making process and that talk about Jack Daniel.

The first stop on the tour was the natural spring that they use for the whiskey. It was probably 20 degrees cooler back by the spring than out in the sun.

Our guide told us that all of the trees on the property have black bark because of a reaction between the whiskey and the tree bark. He said that during prohibition they would look for stills in the woods by checking for trees with black bark.

Of course you aren't allowed to take any pictures inside the buildings... trade secrets.

We officially know more about Tennessee sour mash whiskey than we ever thought we would.

Hello Hotel!

I have never taken so many pictures inside a hotel before. We didn't stay there, it was more than double the price of our little room, but we did take the shuttle over to look around.

It was just like being walking through a town, except for the fact that it is air-conditioned... Super important in the Tennessee summer.

Saturday - We drove down to Lynchburg to visit the Jack Daniel's distillery. After that we headed to downtown Lynchburg to do some shopping.

Sunday - Downtown Nashville

Monday - Nashville Zoo... I liked the baby leopards and Handy liked the meerkats.

Tuesday - We kept track off all the different state license plates we saw on our drive. I did a happy dance when we found Alaska since we were pretty sure that one wouldn't be on our list.

Wednesday - Handy taught me how to grill steaks. He said I did a pretty good job, even though they were a little rare.

Thursday - Visitors at Red door!!! We are always excited when people stop by on their way through town.

Friday - Pizza on the grill... These ones were so good I can't wait to make them again next week.

Saturday - First funnel cake of the year! We walked over to the Sacred Heart festival for some food. Handy got loaded perogies and I got a funnel cake.

Sunday - Our new garden decorations look fantastic in the yard. I like how the dragonfly has a rain gauge.

Monday - We went to visit the piggies after dinner Monday night.

Tuesday - It must be hard to be a pup. It's easier to get a picture of this dog with his eyes closed than open.

Wednesday - Our flat family... I think the Bevo is my favorite.

Thursday - Handy loves popsicles. We have 3 kinds in the freezer since the store had them on sale for a dollar.

Friday - After riding in the car for too long we had a good time walking through the Opryland Hotel. It was huge, looked like a garden and had air-conditioning.

We went to Mount Vernon (which I kept referring to as Martha's Vineyard) after the museums. It rained on our way out but cleared up when we got off the bus. Our time there was a little short because of traffic back in the city.

I don't have a lot of photos because you weren't allowed to take pictures inside the house... I took this one before the lady said anything ;o)

There wasn't much furniture but the beds were really short (Handy would never have fit in one comfortably) and some of the original paint colors were strange, like bright green strange.

The view from the back was awesome. They said that Mount Vernon had bought all the property on the far side of the river so the view would be the same as when old George lived there.

Smithsonian

We went to two of the three Smithsonian museums... We only had 3 hours which is hardly enough for one of the museums.

We started at the Air and Space... mainly because we had to go there to eat lunch. Neither of us are very interesting in that type of stuff. It made for some cool pictures though.

I really don't think I would try to get airborne in this thing... it seems pretty flimsy even with the wires attaching it to the ceiling.

We spend the majority of our time at the American History museum.

This Stradivarius was amazing. I love the detail on the side.

Julia Child's kitchen

Behind this metal flag was the flag that inspired the Star Spangled Banner... It was pretty awesome. I think that may have been my favorite thing we saw. It was huge but the exhibit made me dizzy because it was dark and the ground looked like it was moving. The dizziness may have been a side effect of all the cold medicine I was taking but the display didn't help.

Saturday - It's official.. skirt season is here! I traded all of my work shoes for flip flops

Sunday - We put our new welcome mat out on the porch. We got it at Christmas but didn't want to put it out in yucky weather. It matches the little flag we have in the front garden.

Monday - Happy Memorial Day! They do a great job of decorating with flags in our little town.

Tuesday - I'm ready for summer reading! I am way behind on my reading goal for this year... I don't know if I will make it but I sure will try.

Wednesday - Final free day of the year = 7 hours of corn hole + a sun burn. I'm almost good enough to beat the Handy Man... almost.

Friday - I finally bought a new swimsuit after 6 years of wearing the same one. I LOVE it!!!

Saturday - It seems going to sleep away camp made Bevo as tired as going on our trip made us. Everybody wanted to take a nap on Saturday, the pooch was the only one lucky enough to get to take one.

Sunday - Bullet got a new seat... It's way more comfortable than the original.

Monday - Struttin' with the boys.

Tuesday - We watched little guys play ball just like big guys. Tusky minor is still undefeated!

Wednesday - Dinner on the grill may be one of my favorite things about summer. Super tasty food and hardly any clean-up.

Thursday - Dog + garden = muddy footprints on the carpet at 5:15 in the morning.

Friday - TGIS - Thank goodness for Stat-care... Handy and I had a hot date at the Stat-care Friday night... p.s: Walmart is a terrible place to have prescriptions filled when you really need the medicine in a hurry.

Saturday - Target was having a great sale on their summer stuff. I got 3 shirts and a pair of shorts for less than $40. I can't wait until it's warm enough to wear them.

Sunday - All of the rain has been doing wonders for the sunflowers. They have been spending quality time on the roof and growing like weeds.

Monday - I got my dress hemmed for much less than the fifty bucks David's wanted.

Tuesday - Bags are packed!!! We are each allowed to take one bag so we put our clothes together and saved the second bag for snacks.

Wednesday - Lincoln Memorial + dusk = super great photo op.

Thursday - While we couldn't go in the White House we could still get some great pictures.

Saturday - Our lilac bush is in full bloom. I was a little worried about it after the late frost last spring. It smells great and the breeze has been blowing it into our living room.

Monday - The sunflower bed is almost ready thanks to the Handy Man and a rototiller. We have been putting the sprouts on the roof to get them ready for planting.

Tuesday - Don't let the smile fool you. It has been bark-a-palooza around here the last few days thanks to Sir Barks-alot. I've heard of the terrible twos but he's three... shouldn't he be behaving now???

Wednesday - This is how we roll.

Thursday - The little stretch of nice weather has really helped us get some things done in the back yard. Handy painted the garage wall and it looks great thanks to his air compressor and paint gun.

Saturday - Women of Faith was super fun. I was excited to hear Angie Smith talk. She did a great job, but perhaps should have come with a warning that everyone would need tissues.

Sunday - Happy Easter Clearance! We made ourselves an Easter basket from the half-price candy.

Monday - This garden wall showed up while I was away last weekend. It's amazing what a huge difference something like this can make. The flower beds look awesome. Now on to the new bed in the yard!

Saturday - We hadn't planned to make no bake cookies to take to Easter dinner but after an hour of trying to dip cake in melted chocolate resulted in overheated, grainy chocolate we gave up and went with something we knew would turn out. Lesson of the day: Don't make something new when you have to take it somewhere.

Sunday - Happy Easter!

Monday - We tried to dodge rain drops and work on getting the grass off the new flower bed in the back yard. Bevo did an excellent job of supervising.

Tuesday - My reading goal is looking less possible now than ever. Sudoku has become the evening activity of choice around red door. Rather than reading or knitting we have been solving these puzzles. I get excited when we go to the dollar store to get new books... Pathetic huh?

Wednesday - It wasn't raining today so we got back to work in the garden. We found this "grandpa worm" while pulling up the sod.

Thursday - I was super busy getting read to go out of town. Last minute errands, balancing the checkbook, doing laundry and packing my bag. The pup decided to watch from a safe location.

Friday - Handy picked up this piggy for our garden while I was out of town. He's going to look great out there with all the flowers. We are going to call him Yoder. It's a T-county thing.

Saturday - The collection is growing. We added boots and foam shades which meant we had to get a tote to store it all in. The bright yellow office was being overtaken by black leather.

Sunday - The seeds are growing!!! I was super doubtful when they were planted but by some miracle they decided to grow. Now the challenge will be to keep them alive long enough to go in the garden... if it ever gets warm enough.

Monday - Spring break + Nice weather = Let's go outside. Bevo was happy to spend lots of time exploring the yard.

Tuesday - We had a birthday party for Sarah at small group. It ended up just being only 3 of us but it was the perfect excuse for some Litty's cake. Yummmmmm!

Wednesday - We took a trip to see baby Andrew. There have been lots of boys added to our family lately... I think it's time for some girls.

Thursday - We replaced those video rockers with this much nicer rocking chair. Now we just have to pick some fabric to re-upholster it with.

Friday - Easter weekend = hard boiled eggs. We didn't plan on cooking eggs but we needed to buy some anyway and I was hungry for egg salad. I thought about coloring them but the Handy Man didn't think that was a great idea.

Monday - After the super warm temperatures on Sunday the daffodils in the front yard bloomed on Monday. They make the flowerbed look so happy.

Tuesday - Happy Birthday Dr. Pepper Queen! We're glad you like your new shoes.

Wednesday - We went to the track meet Wednesday night. I had never been to a meet before. It would have been better if it wasn't so windy but it was still fun to see the kids race.

Thursday - Mmmmm, banana bread. I had been hungry for banana bread for over a week. We bought bananas at the Cheese and it took forever for them to get ripe enough to bake some bread. To make it even yummier I put chocolate chips in the mix.

Friday - Home made pizza! The spinach, mushroom, feta was way better than anything we could have bought from the frozen food section.

Saturday - We saw the new NewPointe sign that was put up earlier in the week. It's so exciting to see this new campus finally have a permanent site.

Sunday - Quiet day at home with my favorite boys.

Monday - Hot water + dog = ouchy toes and never a dull moment.

Tuesday - BLT's for dinner... so yummy. The bacon smell hanging around for 2 days... not so great.

Wednesday - Mid-week trip to the Cheese for oatmeal and bread flour ended with a trip to the ice cream counter. Cookies and cream for Handy, Cherry vanilla custard for me.

Thursday - We moved around the back room. The pup box was making a dent in the carpet after 3 years of being in the same place. The video game chairs will be replaced with a rocking chair and the blue sofa is going to be swapped out for a futon as soon as we get a cushion.

Friday - I requested this book back in February and it finally came in at the Library. I'm super excited to read it. I'm usually not a non-fiction fan but I have heard great things about this book.

Tuesday - Small group was at Theo's house. They claim no one comes to visit them anymore. It's all about this little boy.

Wednesday - After 5 months with the poinsettia on the table we decided it should be relocated to the trash bin. It was never intended to survive that long in this house. Our new G bowl has taken it's place. Now we just need something to put in this bowl... maybe we should have kept that poinsettia???

Saturday - We caught the blimp landing on our way home from Kim's shower. I had never been so close to it before. We weren't the only people who pulled over to watch it come down.

Sunday - We went to Pat's church for Grant's baptism. He's got so many girl's in his life he has already earned the title of "ladies man".

Monday - I took pictures for a band. Not my usual cup of tea but they turned out pretty well. The guys were pretty happy with them.

Tuesday - We did a little re-decorating around red door. The picture mat from our wedding had been above the fireplace since we got married. The picture in the middle is almost 4 years old so wanted to update things a little.

Wednesday - Hooray for Spring!!!

Thursday - This boy loves to lay in the sun. The only problem is that he leaves his toys jammed up against the door and you can't open it when you get home.

Friday - This is my first project knitted with round needles. Hopefully it is blanket size by next fall!

"Pup-a-palooza"

Saturday - We went to visit Lari girl. She was ready for her close-up!

Sunday - Lots of shedding = pup bath!

Monday - Fresh ground coffee has become the norm around red door. I have become such a coffee snob that I am more picky about flavor than ever. We tried a new expresso roast this week that is rather inexpensive and quite tasty.

Tuesday - Small group was really small this week so there were plenty of Sarah's soft pretzels to bring home. They are super yummy. I have the recipe but I haven't had the courage to make them yet.

Wednesday - Thirty-one was having a photo contest to launch their kids line. Nobody said the kids had to be of the human variety.

Thursday - I know someone who is happy! Hopefully pup struts will become a daily occurrence soon.

Friday - Bevo loves his visitors! Hopefully "the girl" will visit again soon.

Saturday - I was super excited to find this candle on sale for 50% off. I had looked at it a couple of times last summer but didn't pick it up. Thank goodness I was patient. The lemon smell is wonderful!

Sunday - Chips + dip = a happy Handy

Monday - Who needs Buckeye Chuck when you have a dog? Bevo's shedding is a sure sign that spring is on it's way.

Tuesday - I sent Handy a text about finding the dog's snowball in my work bag. His reply was for me to keep looking, there were two more toys to be found. It appears the man, not the dog, wanted to be sure I had something to play with just in case I got bored at work.

Wednesday - This is rain in our driveway. This rain needs to stay in the driveway and not leak into our basement.

Thursday - New sock day! I'm putting Grandma's Christmas gifts to good use!

Friday - It would be easier to be angry about this if it wasn't so pretty.

Saturday - Lunch at my favorite restaurant. Handy is pretty lucky, most men don't get to treat their wives to their favorite lunch for under $15.

Sunday - It's Pazcki time! We love the custard filled pazcki from Buehler's. We picked these up when we stopped for our Sunday paper. If you don't get there early enough the only ones left will be fruit filled.

Monday - This is Bevo's favorite place to lay. Right in the MIDDLE of the kitchen floor!

Tuesday - The neighbors seem to forget that trash day is on Friday and put their junk out extra early in the week. I hate seeing it lay by the road for days.

Wednesday - We love our DVR... we record at least 5 different shows every week. It's great to be able to fast forward through the commercials too.

Thursday - Time to do the checkbook. I love it when it balances!

Friday - Guess who got glam gloves???? This girl did!!! Perhaps now I won't hate doing the dishes so much... probably not!

Wednesday: Meet the newest member of the family. Now if that snow in the background would melt Handy would be in business.

Tuesday - Handy got some new boots for work this week. His last pair had a hole in them and made his toes cold.

Wednesday - It's a good thing we bought these in bulk at the beginning of the winter. We made it through most of the season before the cold bug visited our house.

Saturday - We made an early morning trip to the Cheese. We usually don't go out there on the weekends since there are always a lot of tourists. It seems we aren't the only ones who realize earlier is better.

Sunday - Since the Super Bowl was in Texas we decided to have a Tex-Mex dinner. Seafood quesadillas, homemade guacamole and chips.

Monday - You can find me here every night around 6:30. I think this is my least favorite chore.

Tuesday - I love 2-hour delay mornings!

Wednesday - The laundry room crown molding and door frame finally got installed. Old houses + not square walls = a pain in the neck

Thursday - It seems this is why we don't buy the dog furry toys. The bottle cap was supposed to be inside the bear, Bevo wanted it to be outside the bear.

Saturday - Happy Birthday Beverly!! We were invited to a surprise 75th birthday party. The car ride down was a little tough but once we got there it was worth it.

Sunday - I had gotten behind on my coupon clipping. It took me almost two hours to go through all the fliers and clip what we needed.

Monday - All of that coupon clipping on Sunday saved us a bundle at the store!

Tuesday - Thank goodness all of our trees are small. Next time I complain about not having any shade I will think about all the damage trees and ice can cause.

Wednesday - I was super happy to get to spend another day at home with this furry kid. Bevo loves spending quality time on the sofa.

Thursday - This bear has become one of the pup's favorite toys lately. We got it for him at Christmas and it literally spent the last month untouched on the floor. For some reason he finally realized that it had a plastic bottle inside that was fun to crunch. Now we almost can't get it away from him.

Friday - Dear trash man, Please be more gentle with our trash can. Cold plastic breaks easily when thrown on the ground. Thank you.

16 is kinda a big deal... so a surprise party was in order. She was pretty surprised. So surprised that she almost fell back out the door when we all yelled surprise!

Mallory was in the middle of everything... I think perhaps she remembers the present opening from Christmas.

The wall letters that we bought were a hit. They looked great with the purple paint.

Grant looked like a big shot with his flannel shirt. He was also sporting some baby Chuck's. What a man!

The cake was a hit too!

365 - Week 4

Saturday - We went to the last Y swim meet of the year. Since it wasn't a big meet we were able to sit pretty close to the pool and get some good pictures.

Sunday - Happy Birthday Kayla!

Monday - We had ranch pork chops for dinner. They were fantastic... and I don't even like pork chops.

Tuesday - This kid likes to hang out under the table during dinner. Not to try and catch scraps of food but because he knows he gets his dinner as soon as we are done. He keeps a close watch on our feet to see who gets up first.

Wednesday - This is what happens when you make a double loaf of bread in the bread maker. It was so tall it almost pushed against the lid of the machine.

Thursday - Hot stove + plastic bowl = garbage can.

Friday - Date night @ Park Street. Handy got a coupon for a free medium pizza that expired at the end of the week so we had to use it quick. We are super excited for their March pizza of the month: Mardi Gras!

Last weekend we were booked full of parties... this is the first one we went to on Saturday. Lots of boys = a ton of noise!

Somebody is excited to go buy some new video games.

This boy loves cake... but I really don't think he needs any more sugar. He manages to get into enough trouble on his own.

This is Handy modeling the latest model of mucklucks... This pair was about 7 sizes too small.

365 - Week 3

Saturday - Gentlemen, start your engines! Since NASCAR doesn't start for over a month we decided to watch some other racers give it their best shot.

Sunday - Our washing machine has had a lovely odor almost the entire 2 and a half years we have lived here... We thought maybe this cleaner would help. It smelled fantastic and the washer is currently odor free... The best part is that we got two dollars off using a manufacturer coupon and a e-coupon at Giant Eagle.

Monday - We picked up the wood trim to finally finish the laundry room. Handy is going to measure and cut all the pieces. Then we are going to paint them white before he installs them.

Tuesday - 2 hour delays make for lots of time with the pooch.

Wednesday - I have read 4 books so far this month. I have to average 6 per month to make my goal of 75 this year. Thank goodness the kindle store offers free e-books.

Thursday - Note to self: Check to be sure the sweeper pipe is connected before you vacuum the living room floor.

Friday - Guess who got a bath today!!!

Pinewood Derby

We hadn't been to a Pinewood Derby in ages...boy have they come a long way. Now the winner of each heat is determined by electronic scoring, weights are exact and wheel base are measured. It's a little more technical than my idea of sticking some wheels on a chunk of wood.

Anthony's car was pretty cool looking and pretty fast.

365 - Week 2

Saturday - Laundry day at Red door. I can always tell when it's cold out because we have so much more laundry!

Sunday - I was invited to a baby shower for one of the girls in our small group. Now all that's left to do is see if an Arianna or a Theo makes an appearance.

Monday - The first cup of coffee from a new bag is an event to be celebrated!

Tuesday - An early dismissal brought me home at 1:30. It seems that meant rather than spending the afternoon teaching I was supposed to spend the afternoon letting the dog in and out... At least that was Bevo's idea of a perfect afternoon.

Wednesday - When it looks like this we stay in.

Thursday - Handy had the important job of sampling all of the hot sauces he got from Little Sister for Christmas. I wasn't brave enough taste any of them.

Friday - Pizza night at Red door. This perhaps may be my favorite dinner night of the week. Little cooking, less clean-up.

Week 1

Saturday - New Year's Day @ Aunt Pat's. Grant was happy with Handy as long as he didn't stop walking around for too long.

Sunday - Bevo got to visit Motorcycle Mama's house to watch the Browns game. I'm not sure if he was more excited about visiting or playing with Cyan's toys.

Monday - You know you are an adult when you get excited about a new kitchen faucet.

Tuesday - The pup was on a hunger strike. They stopped selling the type of food he likes at the store. We bought him a different kind and he would rather make a mess with it on the floor than eat it.

Wednesday - I started kitting my second project today. I became a pro at the knit stitch so now I'm learning how to purl.

Thursday - All this snow makes us want to stay in and cuddle on the sofa.

Friday - A 2-hour delay means I get to drive to work after the sun rises! I also get a ton of stuff done in those extra two hours.

I always wanted to learn how to knit.

I tried to crochet a few years ago and the yarn and hook are still sitting in a basket under our end table.

I was taking about my lack of yarn skills and the art teacher told me that she could teach me... I warned her that I had tried and failed before but she said that if she can teach 8th graders to knit she can teach me... ha! It seems she was right, and we only had to pull it apart and start over once! After I finish this scarf I get to learn some more difficult stitches and I'm so excited!

Get me a rocking chair and call me Grandma!
